Realtors...
What's with my agent???!!!!
So - I have been e-mailing him for weeks to find out the prices of properties sold on a particular street in the past year. He (and his sister - the other agent) have both promised on numerous occasions to forward the info to me but they never do.
Then - I e-mailed him three days ago asking 4 questions: 1) How much a specific property sold for; 2) The above-noted question; 3) Whether a particular listing is having an open house; and 4) If not, whether they can set up a showing for us.
I had to resend the message before hearing from him. AND then the agent only responded to 1) and reiterated for the umpteenth time that a different property (that we are not interested in) is still for sale...
Can he not read????!!!!!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!
(oh - and according to spellchecker in Word - umpteenth is a real word!)

Yeah, some realtors can be a real pain.
I think the hot market has lot to do with it as well, though. They could spend the traditional time, helping someone like you with various questions, etc. – or they could spend their effort flipping houses quickly and make a fortune.
Problem for them is, when the market slows down, they will have to rely on the good experiences and referrals from people like you – so they are really hurting themselves in the long run..
If you are ever interested in changing, I can recommend a couple that I have found very good..
I wouldn't mind it if he got back to me and said flat out that he doesn't have time for me right now...I know of another agent who is young and eager (and who's dad is also an agent with tons of listings in the neighbourhood where we are looking...) I would go with the 'kid'. But for whatever reason, I feel bad 'ditching' the current guy when really I shouldn't because he isn't doing too much. (Though, to be fair to all of them - unless we find our dream house, we aren't moving until next spring so we are kind of wasting everyone's time...except, and unless, we find that special house...)
I find that good realtors don't care if you are "just looking", as they realize that they will get your business eventually (or at least, your referral) if you do a good job for them... but I digress..
Good luck....
Hi Cranberry,
What sort of arrangement do you have with your apartment if you find a house (I believe you said you do rent, before)?
The reason I ask is that my apartment block is forcing me into another year lease - so I either find a house soon, or I assume I'm stuck for another year. Yeesh!
I thought that my landlord would help me sublet the apartment - they don't have any others available as high as ours is in the building (not even close) - and people are not renting here because of it. I figured it would make sense to then offer ours as an alternative - if the potential renters look like they might stay long term (rather than risk losing them to another building forever...)
BUT
no such luck
We have to find our own subletters or we are stuck with our lease. We just found this out - so yet another reason why we are staying put unless we find our DREAM home!
So it sounds pretty standard - and pretty annoying! I hate this "second class citizen" status of renting, sometimes..
It is time to ditch that realtor. Don't EVER feel like you have to maintain loyalty to a realtor just because you worked with him once. Always remember that they work for you and you have every right to move on if they don't meet your needs! There are plenty of other realtors out there who actually give a shit about their clients, why but up with this loser?
